Venue Coordinator vs. Wedding Planner
Happy T U E S D A Y everyone! How was your weekend? Ours was busy with planning and executing both an engagement party and a wedding. With everything picking back up and venues allowing couples to book their venue, we thought it would be the perfect time to go over the differences between a venue coordinator and a wedding planner or day of coordinator.
When you book your venue, most places come with a venue coordinator or banquet manager. Well - that’s great, right? You don’t have to worry about hiring a wedding planner when you have a venue coordinator or banquet manager that comes with the venue. WRONG! These are definitely not the same thing.
There are so many different titles in the hospitality industry that it can kind of get confusing. We are here to help you understand the difference between the two and to encourage you to ask questions when you book your venue!
A venue coordinator’s responsibilities are tailored towards the venue and the venue only (hence why it’s called the VENUE coordinator). This person is hired by the venue to ensure all of the rules are being followed during your event. They are also the person to make sure all of the accommodations that they have to offer as a venue are running smoothly throughout events. For example, if your venue comes with tables and chairs, they will set those up based on the layout that you agree to. If your venue includes catering, they will make sure that the food and beverages are served on time with the best quality. Of course a venue coordinator wants your day to run smoothly, however, they are there to do their job as a venue coordinator and not as a wedding planner.
The responsibilities of a wedding planner is to ensure your needs as a couple are being met and your day runs exactly how you want it. They make your timeline for the event and make sure you stick to it throughout the entirety of the event. They assist with the floor-plans and help direct vendors on where to go for the day of. Most wedding planners offer different packages that include different services. It’s important to know the different packages they have to offer and book accordingly - but we want to be clear that these two job titles are NOT the same thing.
At LexHouse Designs, we offer a range of services from day of coordination to partial and full coordination. All of our packages include a minimum (which would be the day of coordination) and each package builds upon each other from there. We are able to add on DIY projects and rentals to accommodate all of your needs. If you have any questions about this blog at all or if you just want to chat - send us an email and we’d be more than happy to get back to you as soon as possible!
